Abstract

The author has been involved in the process of the professionalisation of older adult education in Slovenia for decades. The professionalisation of older adult education contributes to strengthening not only the social value of older people and their education but also the social value of their educators’ education. The author examines the distinctive characteristics of professionalisation, such as disciplinary knowledge, rigorous, autonomous work, and normative rules set by members of the profession. The method used is the historical method of observation through the eyes of actors involved in conceiving and developing the professionalisation of older adult education at the Slovenian Third Age University. The findings will serve the future development of theory and practice in the field.
