Neglecting Education of Employees - Management's Original Sin

Abstract

Education of employees cannot be related to the strictly purpose oriented contents, although this is the most frequent practice found in our enterprises. On the one hand positions and privileges of the organizational elite are indeed endangered by any additional familiarity with managerial knowledge on the part of employees, but on the other hand also the functionalistic view has the right to direct entrepreneurial processes, which are seen most frequently in relation to economic criteria, i. e. the profit. Management still needs to be convinced about the fact that educating employees does not endanger the interests of enterprises. If there exists management's original sin related to education at all, it can be eliminated by means of greater confidence in employees. Education's position should be established as part of the organizational culture, regardless of how market oriented it may be. Education cannot be seen as an expense only for it is more a condition for survival.
