Action Research in Adult EducationAbstract
In the paper, Brečko examines the possibility of introducing action research in adult education, and concludes that this method of research is more appropriate than other methods borrowed by adult education practice from pedagogy. The starting point for action research is that of unsolved problems, concerns and dissatisfaction with the present situation. According to Brečko, action research goes right to the core of the problem: it aims at improving overall practice, our perception of practice, and its objective and subjective conditions and restrictions. Brečko offers a model of action research for studying educational practice in work organizations, and mentions its strengths and weaknesses, especially if undertaken by unprofessional researchers. As action research implies active interference in educational field, Brečko stresses the importance of consistent regard for the five most important ethical principles.
