On Culture and Adult Education

Abstract

The author examines the role of culture in life and education of adults. Similarly she discusses the role of culture in the development of society. She goes on considering adult education, the role of the latter being linking and individual's culture with that culture of the environment that is most able to encourage development. She deals with the role of culture in the education of marginalized groups in relation to the notion of cultural qualification and cultural competence. In doing so she draws some parallels between the two notions and those of soci alisation and education of adults. Cultural competence seems to be one of the key qualifications in an individual since its role is to augment all his or her other capacities in the way of numeracy or literacy.
