Development of the Enlightened Thought in SloveniaAbstract
Krajnc claims that the enlightened thought has a long tradition in Slovenia. Originally, the need for enlightenment was felt among the Protestant clergy; later, incentive for education of the wider public was offered by various informal societies. These efforts were stifled in the period between the two wars; however, during World War II, despite the adverse conditions, cultural and educational endeavour again gained ground. In the fifties, enlightenment was again persecuted by the political circles, who favoured state bureaucracy and the army instead. The enlightened thought started to flourish in the political spring in the late eighties, and has developed ever since.
