The aim of this renewed historical dealing with 19th century piano music in Slovenia, above all with that concerning the waltz, is in exposing methodological problems in writings up to now and in assessing that segment of our musical past that has been from the artistic point of view for good reasons considered as unimportant. Dealing with piano compositions in their cultural/historical context reveals an interdependent relationship between the creative and performing level of a piece of music as well as that of its meaning or rather importance. An analysis of musical sources sheds light upon certain inner connections with the concept of popular music as defined by Kurt Blaukopf.Downloads
