Abstract

The orchestral output of Demetrij Žebre (1912– 1970) places him among the most significant Slovene composers of the first half of the 20th century music modernism. The article tries to answer the question, how the style in his orchestral works changed after 1944, particularly in his symphonic poem Towards Liberty (1944), which is a typical example of the intersection between moderate modernism and Socialist Realism dealing with National Liberation War (NOB) topics.
