The article examines and introduces the Chronicleof the Ljubljana Philharmonic Society from 1899 till
1907 that has not been published yet. It was written
by its former president Josef Hauffen and sheds
a light on the functioning of the Society, its rela
tions with the Glasbena matica Music Society, the
Carniolan Savings Bank (Kranjska hranilnica) and
the Choir of the German Recreation Club (Nemško
telovadno društvo). The Chronicle also bears wit
ness to the sharp national differences between
Slovenes and Germans.
