The authoress describes the development of the lied as one of the most important musical forms in 19th century Croatian culture, based on an analysis of the expressive power of works composed by Vatroslav Lisinski, Ferdo Wiesner Livadić, Ivan Padovec, and Ivan Zajc. At the same time she follows the embeddedness of this process in contemporary discussions concerning the national in music.Downloads
