Abstract

Through ali periods, from the Middle Ages to this day, Slovenian music has been developing parallel with that of Western Europe. Hence, there arises the question of historical relations: what has it received from, and what has it - to the best of its abilities, and through its representatives and institutions - contributed to this music. The aim of the text is to introduce Slovenian music in its historically national (and therefore also prenational) role, and after its originality seems to have exceeded expectations, in its ascension to European or, more directly, Central European standards - individually, creatively, interpretationally, and institutionally.
