In the article, the author analyses the timbre of male singers singing in Slovenian language in chosen historical recordings. Using timbre analysis of digital copies of old 78-rpm records it is possible, despite lower technical quality of the recordings, to deduce with sufficient reliability the manner of phonation of the male singers of the time and the aesthetic properties of their performance, as well as to compare it with their and our contemporaries.
