CALL FOR PAPERS: The Lusophone World in Romance Languages and Literatures
Call for Papers
VERBA HISPANICA XXXI (2023)
“The Lusophone World in Romance Languages and Literatures”
The study of the Portuguese language, its literature and its cultures began in the academic year 2022/2023 at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Arts. It is now included in all study programs of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures; like the other department programmes, it is connected to all fields of humanities at this faculty. Introducing the Portuguese language along with its literatures and cultures recognizes the importance of Portuguese as a global language that is spoken by 270 million people worldwide, and it is also a formal response to the growing interest in the Lusophone world – a world which plays an increasingly prominent role in Slovenia, including in the academy.
This special issue of Verba Hispanica is dedicated to Portuguese language and literature, to the contact between other Romance languages and literatures and Portuguese, and to literatures and cultures in Portuguese, in the broadest sense. The idea for this special issue arose with the introduction of the BA-level double-subject programme Portuguese Language and Literature at the University of Ljubljana. That introduction reflected a desire to open up a new field of research in the field of Romance languages in Slovenia, which will stimulate new reflections on the linguistic and intercultural intricacies of the Romance world. We invite you to contribute your research on the proposed topic from the following fields: linguistics, literature, culture, didactics and translation.
Verba Hispanica is an internationally renowned scholarly literary-linguistic journal in which leading Slovenian and foreign experts publish original papers on the Romance languages of the Iberian Peninsula (Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and Galician). In this year’s special issue, papers will also be published in English. The journal’s main mission is to contribute to the development of scholarly thought with previously unpublished, original and high-quality papers. Verba Hispanica has been published annually year since 1991.
All abstracts and papers undergo a double-blind peer-review. The relevance of each article to the proposed topic, along with each article’s scholarly rigor, is evaluated by two reviewers, and the final decision on publication is made by the journal’s editorial board. Our review process guarantees the anonymity of authors and reviewers alike. We will inform each author of the decision made – that is, whether the paper has been accepted for publication, whether additional revision is required, or whether it has been rejected.
Verba Hispanica is indexed in: MLA (Modern Languages Association), DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), ERIH PLUS, BL Bibliographie Linguistique, REDIB, Latindex, Dialnet and other databases.
