Clase abierta sobre teatro latinoamericano : el teatro en Buenos Aires 1900-1950

Se impone, ante todo, una premisa de carácter general acerca de lo que entendemos con la denominación Teatro Latinoamericano. La misma representa una idea, un concepto, muy amplio, multifacético y, asimismo, muy vago. Diversas son las realidades teatrales de los distintos países de la América Hispánica en la actualidad y en el pasado, así como son diferentes sus historias y expresiones, no obstante la misma raíz española.
Del mismo modo, se impone especificar que cuando usamos la palabra teatro, en general, nos estamos refiriendo a muchos aspectos de este arte. Por tradición, o por una forma de prejuicio crítico, al utilizar este vocablo aludimos casi siempre al texto dramático: el teatro de Shakespeare, el teatro de Lope de Vega, de Lorca, etc. Este privilegio del texto termina por relegar a un segundo plano el espectáculo que conforma la representación teatral. Al hablar de escritores dramáticos y de sus respectivos textos, estamos soslayando lo que los semiólogos del teatro llaman texto espectacularo, simplemente, representación– y todo lo que el mismo implica.
