Tan verdaderos, tan oportunos y tan graciosos que se conservaron, desde los tiempos de nuestros abuelos griegos y bisabuelos egipcios hasta nuestros tiempos, se han recopilado en colecciones, utilizado en literatura en general y conservado en la memoria común, compartida por la gente. Cuando utilizados adecuadamente decoran, argumentan y embellecen un discurso y cuando utilizados despropositadamente alteran el sentido del enunciado y desvían la atención de los oyentes del mensaje del discurso sobre el escaso conocimiento del hablante (escritor) del sentido de la paremia y, por consiguiente, de su no-adecuación para el discurso contextual.
