El escritor žarko Petan nació en 1929 en Ljubljana. Escribe novelas, cuentos cortos, obras de teatro, poesía, ensayos y cuentos infantiles. Los rasgos más destacados de su li- teratura son el humor y la sátira, y se ha afirmado, tanto en Eslovenia como en el extranjero, como excelente autor de aforismos. Recibió varios premios literarios y sus obras han sido traducidas a veintisiete idiomas. Es director de teatro –su labor teatral cuenta con más de ciento veinte puestas en escena– y fue también director del Teatro Nacional Esloveno (Drama).
