Abstract

El estudio pragmático e informativo de la oración ha ganado en adeptos en los últimos años, si bien aún es necesario profundizar en algunos de los conceptos manejados por los investigadores que se han interesado por este asunto. Fundamentalmente se han lanzado propuestas que han tenido en cuenta el modo en que la información se despliega a través del material lingüístico, así como la naturaleza y características de los elementos que conforman dicho material. Como consecuencia de los avances habidos a propósito de estas cuestiones, han cobrado importancia nociones como el tópico, comentario, tema o rema, surgidos en principio para dar nombre y respuesta a algunos de los fenómenos que tienen lugar cuando el hablante trata de transmitir información a potenciales recep- tores, y que han sido circunscritos casi exclusivamente al ámbito oracional. En las páginas que siguen pretendo demostrar que esta es una visión en cierto modo sesgada, por haber unidades de mayor envergadura que normalmente no son tenidas en cuenta y que creo sí deberían ser tomadas en consideración. Me refiero al párrafo, de cuyo estudio se pueden extraer conclusiones esclarecedoras aplicadas, concretamente, a la noción de tópico. Por eso propongo, en este trabajo, relacionar ambos conceptos aun cuando da la impresión de que se hallan, en principio, muy alejados.
