Si ya la propia Muerte nos advierte del peligro y la seriedad que entraña acercarse a ella, aunque sea en el artificio de una representación dramática, quiero acercarme de puntillas, tan sólo rozar el velo del Misterio invisible de una realidad, casi de la única realidad latente de nuestra existencia. El tratamiento teatral del tema de la Muerte nos puede resultar ahora poco dramático en algunas ocasiones, pero fue algo recurrente en el teatro simbolista europeo, sobre todo esa penosa espera de lo Inevitable, del destino implacable contra el que no puede hacer nada la Hurnanidad. El simbolismo prefiere la comunicación indirecta que sugiera y evoque, con una prosa musical cuidadosamente elaborada, que tuvo amplia repercusión en otros ámbitos de la cultura.
