Alexandre Herculano intitulou assim, nos seus preâmbulos, quatro pequenas composi oes históricas (que se distinguem entre si pelos n. I a IV), as quais, é ele quem o escreve, são evidentemente anteriores ao século XVI, e fazem parte do manuscrito 79 da Biblioteca Pública do Porto, originário do mosteiro de Santa Cruz de Coimbra. Este manuscrito (a sua cota actual tern o n.0 103), uma parte do qual é de pergaminho e a outra de papel, compreende 47 folhas, em diversas letras da segunda metade do século XV. Os fragmentos n.os I e II oferecem ambos pouco interesse literário. 0 primeiro, no dizer de Herculano, é uma compila ao de memórias isoladas coligidas sem ordem cronológica de diversas fontes, e interrompidas de tempos a tempos por matérias históricas; feita "na segunda metade do século XV', estende-se até ao reinado de Dom Dinis, pois, se bem que os seus artigos se refiram também a tempos posteriores (o texto completo abrange factos relativos ao reinado de Dom Duarte), Herculano quis limitá-la àquele período.
