Race dos años apareció en Florencia, en la editorial La Nuova Italia y bajo la dirección del grecista y balcanólogo Emanuele Banfi, el volumen La formazione dell 'Europa linguistica. Le lingue dell 'Europa tra Ia fine dell e dell II millennia que forma parte de la colección Lingue d 'Europa, dirigida por el rnismo autor. El libro describe la formación de los idiomas escritos en nuestro continente, dentro del segundo milenio, pero con miradas retrospectivas (basta la antigüedad). La materia es vista desde un punto de vista sociolingüístico-variacionístico-estandardológico pero no exclusivamente, ya que incluye también a los dialectos así como la historia interna y externa, los factores socioculturales, los geolingüísticos y otros. El volurnen se divide en dos partes principales: la primera trata de las lenguas indoeuropeas y la segunda de las no indoeuropeas (lenguas ugrofímicas y samoiedas, vasco, turco, calmuco, maltés).
