Pocas cosas me han ocurrido y muchas he leído1 dice Borges refiriéndose así a la existencia de otros mundos, no menos reales e importantes que Ia realidad mas usual que los hombres experimentamos: los sueños, las alucinaciones, las lecturas... todos son hechos reales porque leer o soñar es vivir en una dimensión diferente, paralela a Ia nuestra. Una de las características más destacadas de las obras de Borges son justamente estos mundos, y El Sur, el nostálgico cuento, no sólo nos ofrece vivir en la realidad de la lectura, sino también encontrar en ella otras dimensiones reales. El autor pone lo "real" y lo "fantástico" en el mismo nivel, los lectores podemos vivir dos realidades a la vez, que no se enfrentan destruyéndose una a otra, sino que, en una simbiosis muy fructuosa, transcurren paralelamente. Así el cuento se puede interpretar de dos maneras
