Abstract

There are great similarities and stylistic analogies between the essays and philosophical writings of José Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955) and María Zambrano (1904-1991), derived from the university relationship they had during the late 1920’s, which can be seen in María Zambrano’s respect and admiration towards Ortega y Gasset as her teacher. Taking the use of metaphor in María Zambrano’s works as the starting point of this analysis, the present article explores the evolution of Zambrano’s style, from a remarkable initial Ortegan influence in her very early writings to how she defines her own path, where the metaphor slowly disappears and the symbol becomes an increasingly central element of her literary expression.

Alejandro Rodríguez Díaz del Real, University of Ljubljana

Alejandro Rodríguez Díaz del Real se doctoró en Literatura el año 2016 por la Universidad de Ljubljana con la tesis titulada Análisis de la metáfora en la escritura filosófica y literaria de José Ortega y Gasset y María Zambrano. Anteriormente, en 2001, obtuvo el título de Magister Artium en Filología Románica por la Universidad de Heidelberg, tras haberse licenciado en Filología Alemana por la Universidad de Sevilla (1998). Comienza a enseñar español y cultura hispánica en la Universidad de Heidelberg (1998-2001). Continúa en la de Aquisgrán (2001-2005), y desde 2005 en la Universidad de Ljubljana, donde actualmente es lector de español y enseña —además de español para hispanistas y no hispanistas— historia cultural de España, Arte español e hispanoamericano y Relaciones culturales entre España y América. Sus áreas preferentes de investigación son la dimensión simbólica y metafórica entre escritura y realidad en el ensayo y la novela, así como la relación histórica entre España y América, en particular durante los siglos XVI y XVII. Desde mediados de 2016 es coordinador de Erasmus (income students).
