The subjects of this article are the constructions two linguistic notions – wordfor mational constructions as synthetic structures on the one hand and free syntactic phrases as their equivalents on the other. The introductory theoretical part includes the notions from the field of linguistics, important for this article. Each notion is properly explained and analysed and contains at least one example. Practical part discusses synthetic struc tures and syntactic phrases (in Slovenian and German languages) that contain geographical elements. The examples are followed by detailed analyses, mutual comparison and results. At the and there are examples of practical use and the analysis of a selected text.
