Abstract

Recognition of plant defences and understanding plant - pathogen interactions provide the basis for plant resistance breeding. Recent applications of molecular biology and biotechnology enable supplementing the existing strategies of disease control, which are mostly based on chemical applications and classical breeding programs. This paper presents a brief review of plant defence responses to pathogens, their genetic concept, basic plant transformation techniques and strategies in plant disease breeding.
