Abstract

Buckwheat grain is a cereal used by people with a gluten allergy. The herb is a relatively new medicinal plant, its use started in the thirties in the USA. Of main importance for its pharmacological activity are the high amounts of rutin (3-10 % of the dried leaf) which is a flavonoid. As well for nutrition as for medicinal application complex knowledge about the complete composition of the different plant parts are of interest. In the last years many compounds have been analysed and some even quantified.
