The history of the Department of Biology at the University of Maribor

A brief review of history of the Department of Biology at the University of Maribor is presented. Biology programme started at the Pedagogical Academy in 1961. The Academy was transformed into the Pedagogical Faculty in 1985. In 2006, its Department of Biology was shifted to the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The recent research and educational programmes cover the following fields of biology: biochemistry, botany, plant ecology and plant physiology, zoology, animal ecology, animal physiology and didactics of biology.
