The micropropagation of Nephro/epis exaltata with runner tips as primary explants is described. The influence of 0.5, 2.5, 5 or 15µM 2iP added to the modified MS medium (BM) on shoot formation in primary explants was tested. A concentration of 0.5µM 2iP gave the highest number and fresh weight of the shoots. The effect of different growth regulators and dilutions of BM on shoot de velopment in secondary explants separated from the primary explants was studied. On 1/2-strength BM containing 0.5µM NAA and 5µM KIN the highest number of shoots was obtained. To induce rooting, the shoots were transferred to a full-strength or diluted BM, hormone-free or supplemented with 6 or 12µM IAA. The highest number of roots and the highest percentage of the shoots that formed roots were obtained on a 1/2-strength hormone-free BM.
