The strategies of Montserrat Sarto, intended to encourage reading as a critical competence and to achieve autonomous reading literacy, are based on playing, gradualness, and dialogue. All participants (students, children, and readers) are included in the group work. These strategies stem from the reading potential of each reader as well as from his internal experience and reaction to the text which was read. Gradually they help to develop an understanding and enjoyment of independent reading and encourage communication with and about the text. The role of the teacher is to act merely as a moderator and mediator.
