Call for Papers: ELOPE, Vol. 21, No. 2 (December 2024)

30. 01. 2024

Since 2019 the universities of Rijeka and Ljubljana, with the support of the Irish embassies to Croatia and Slovenia, have hosted an Irish Studies Guest Lecture Series, which has brought scholars of Irish literature, historians and political scientists to speak in these two universities. The encounter between Irish literature/studies and non-Anglophone Europe at the heart of this enterprise informs the thematic focus of this special issue.

The editors welcome contributions that reflect on any aspect of Irish literature’s engagement with the literatures and cultures of continental Europe. Articles that take a comparative or transnational perspective on this relationship, or that analyse aspects of the translational traffic between Irish and non-Anglophone European literatures, are particularly welcome. While the focus is on literature, the editors will also happily consider submissions that take interdisciplinary or theoretical approaches to this question as well. Contributions that examine whether Irish Studies provides a possible interdisciplinary model for other countries’ engagements with their cultural and political histories would be of especial interest.

The language of contributions is English. Papers should be between 5,000 and 8,000 words in length, with an abstract of no more than 150 words. They should conform to the author guidelines available here, and should be submitted via the ELOPE platform available here. Any technical inquiries can be sent to Andrej Stopar (andrej.stopar@ff.uni-lj.si). The submission deadline for articles is 31 May 2024.

ELOPE is published by University of Ljubljana Press, and is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed, journal that is listed in the MLA International Bibliography and is included in Scopus. ELOPE is also to be found in ERIH PLUS (European Reference Index for the Humanities database) and DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals).
