ELOPE Special Issue: Jane Austen and After
In honour of Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary, ELOPE is pleased to announce a special issue dedicated to her oeuvre. Jane Austen and After invites contributions that deal with the long afterlife of Austen’s novels and characters and the reconsideration of them and their creator in accordance with current literary and interdisciplinary theories. The issue is planned for December 2026 (ELOPE Vol. 23, No. 2).
Submissions could deal with the following topics:
- Adaptations of Austen to film, television and other media
- Translations of Austen’s work into other languages
- Reception of Austen in specific cultural spaces
- Appropriation of Austen’s characters and settings for diverse cultural practices
- Feminist accommodations for reading Austen
- Generic reconsideration of Austen’s novels
- Rediscovery, republication and/or rewriting of juvenilia
- Recreations of Austen’s life and biography – e.g. in film and graphic novel
- New strategies for teaching Austen in the woke classroom
This list of suggestions is far from exhaustive. Submitted articles must contain up-to-date scholarship, be free from AI-generated content, and conform to ELOPE’s publishing guidelines.
Special Issue Editors: Michelle Gadpaille, Tjaša Mohar and Tomaž Onič
