Briseis’ Letter to Achilles

Ovidij se je v tretjem pismu iz zbirke z naslovom Junakinje oz. Pisma junakinj prelevil v Homerjeve like iz znamenite trojanske vojne: po prihodu Grkov v Frigijo so vojaki najprej napadli mesta v okolici Troje: Ahil je tako razrušil Tebe in Lirnes, pri tem pa si kot plen prisvojil tudi dve prelepi dekleti, hčeri Hriza in Briza, ki ju Iliada generično poimenuje zgolj po očetih, torej s patronimi. Medtem ko je Hrizéido Ahil podaril Agamemnonu, pa je Brizéido zadržal zase; ker pa je moral Agamemnon po volji bogov vrniti svojo deklico očetu, je Ahilu nasilno odvzel njegovo. Junak, užaljen zaradi takšne žalitve, je umaknil svoje bojne vrste in odrekel svojo pomoč v boju proti Trojancem (Iliada 1). Potem ko so Grki v spopadih večkrat doživeli poraz, je Agamemnon poslal k Ahilu poslance z darovi, vendar je Ahil vse to iz jeze zavrnil (Iliada 9). Dogajalni čas pisma je ravno po tem trenutku, saj ga Brizeida v njem naproša, naj sprejme ponujene darove in znova stopi v boj proti Troji.
