Abstract

Karoly Kerenyi (1897–1973) je klasično filologijo študiral v Budimpešti in v Nemčiji. Med letoma 1934 in 1941 je bil profesor v mestu Pécs, med letoma 1941 in 1943 pa v Szegedu. Po obisku v Švici, kamor ga je leta 1943 poslala madžarska vlada, mu je vrnitev najprej preprečila vojna, nato pa komunistični prevzem oblasti, do katerega je na Madžarskem prišlo leta 1947. V Evropi si je ime ustvaril predvsem z raziskavami grške mitologije; kljub temu pa je kot kulturni antropolog antičnega sveta v veliki meri ostajal na obrobju svoje akademske discipline.
