Abstract

Our research on Callimachus' poem about the katasterism of Berenice's hair, now known as the Fragment 110 (Pf.), is confined mainly to Catullus' translation (c.66). Nevertheless, the observations can be applied to the original as well because of Catullus' adherence to the Greek poem, which can be demonstrated in a number of surviving verses of the fragment. With his idea to put speech in the mouth of the personified, and through the katasterism deified queen's hair, Callimachus establishes an interesting relation between the poet and the deity and also beetwen the deity and the queen.
