Na otoku ni enotne vere in verovanja se razlikujejo celo znotraj posameznih mest. Nekateri po božje častijo sonce, nekateri luno, nekateri pa še kakšen drug planet. Obstajajo celo ljudje, ki poveličujejo človeka, slavnega zaradi njegove kreposti in dostojanstva, in ta zanje ni le eden od bogov, pač pa vrhovno božanstvo. Velika večina – in ti so daleč najrazumnejši – pa ne verjame ničesar od tega, ampak časti neko edino božanstvo, ki je nepoznano, večno, neizmerno, nepojmljivo in zunaj dosega človeškega razuma ter se ne v fizičnem, pač pa v duhovnem smislu razteza po vsem vesolju. Imenujejo ga Oče. Le njemu pripisujejo nastanek, razvoj, napredek, spreminjanje in konec vsega. Božanskih časti tako ne posvečajo nobenemu drugemu božanstvu.Downloads
