IzvlečekPotreba po teoriji citiranja je v zadnjih letih pomembna tema v bibliometriji. Pomembno je, da pri uporabi bibliometrijskih metod, kot je analiza citiranja, knjižničarji ne bi opravljali samo rutinske poizvedbe, temveč bi uporabniku dali bolj koristne podatke. Pričujoče besedilo, ki je sicer del širše študije, obravnava poseben aspekt citiranja, motive. Razumevanje motivov, ki jih imajo avtorji pri citiranju, navajanju objav drugih, pa je pogosto ključ s katerim lahko obrazložimo dobljene rezultate analize citiranja.
