About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Les/Wood publishes original research articles and review papers that examine the broad field of wood science and technology. Subject areas include the complete forest-wood supply chain from various aspects, including wood as a material, and wood as a part of cultural heritage. Based in Slovenia, Les/Wood clearly combines locally oriented research with the original research results from neighbouring countries and elsewhere in Europe, as well as beyond to broaden this national focus.

Les/Wood is a diamond open-access, international peer-reviewed scientific journal published twice a year by the University of Ljubljana Press and issued by the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The journal considers wood science and technology broadly, and publishes original scientific articles and reviews covering diverse topics that include: material science, forestry, plant sciences, environmental sciences, ecology, engineering, mechanics, polymer science, biotechnology and applied microbiology, physical geography, chemistry, agriculture, anthropology, archaeology, geology, meteorology and atmospheric sciences, architecture and design, construction, cultural heritage and ethnology, economics and organizational sciences, business informatics and computer science. The journal also publishes editorials and an occasional “News” section for its readership.

The journal is governed by an Editorial Team (editor-in-chief, managing editor and technical editor) in cooperation with the International Editorial Board, consistent with the mission of the journal.

Les/Wood was launched as an open access journal in 2017. The series has one volume with two issues per year. The journal is issued in print (ISSN: 0024-1067) and online (2590-9932).

 Les/Wood continues the legacy of the journal Les: revija za lesno gospodarstvo, (ISSN 0024-1067) which was published continuously from 1949 until 2013.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts in Les/Wood are peer reviewed. They are examined by the editors upon receipt. Afterwards the authors are (if necessary) asked to correct or change the manuscript. After the manuscript has been corrected it is sent to two anonymous reviewers (single blind review). The reviewers receive a manuscript with the author’s name and affiliation, and the author receives the review(s) without the reviewers’ names. If the reviews require the manuscript to be corrected or augmented, the review will be sent to the author to correct the manuscript. Manuscripts with major corrections are subject to a second review. The editor-in-chief and managing editor have the right to make suggestions for improvements regarding contents and technical aspects. The article may be rejected for publication by the reviewers or by the editors.

Publication Frequency

The Journal Editor accepts submissions on a continuous basis. Editorial process takes approx. 5 months. Les/Wood is published twice a year.

Open Access Policy

Les/Wood publishes according to the diamond open access model and supports the principle that making research findings freely available to the public encourages the public good through the greater global exchange of knowledge. Les/Wood does not charge authors to publish (APC) nor readers to access published articles. Financial support for Les/Wood comes from customer purchases of the print version of the journal and from the Slovenian Research Agency. Published articles are not eligible for a fee.
