Abstract

The international wood anatomy community mourns the loss of Prof. Dr Pieter Baas (28 April 1944–29 April 2024) from the Netherlands. He was a key figure in the International Association of Wood Anatomists (IAWA) and editor of the IAWA Journal for decades. He made an outstanding contribution to the development of wood anatomy and wood science for more than four decades. His life, work and outstanding personal qualities have contributed to the growth and connection of the worldwide wood anatomy community.
