The fundamental problem concerning the distribution of the Spanish article in nominal phrases lies in taking into account the multiplicity of factors which impinge upon its use including sentence syntax and semantics as well as pragmatic, phraseological and idiomatic phenomena derived from considerations or phraseological fixation.
This study is based on different investigations of verbal semantics as well as syntactic contexts in relation to the selection of more or less restricted predicates and their subsequent correlation with the distribution of the Spanish article (among others: Bosque, 1996; Masullo, 1996; Laca, 1999; De Miguel, 1999, 2004, 2012; Morimoto, 1999, 2001; Hämäläinen, 2004). The objective of our work has been, on the one hand, to provide some keys to help understand the complexity of the article acquisition process in Spanish as a Foreign Language learners and, in turn, to develop a didactic application with a syntactic-semantic scope that facilitates the processing significance of something as complex as the teaching/learning of the article in Spanish as a Foreign Language.
