Die vom Narr Francke Attempto Verlag herausgegebene Reihe LinguS (Linguistik und Schule) zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass die Bänder nicht nur ein Grundlagenwissen in verschiedenen Bereichen der Sprachwissenschaft vermitteln, sondern dieses Wissen aus einer sprachdidaktischen Perspektive mit Bezug auf die Unterrichtspraxis behandeln. Die Publikation von Christine Römer und Afra Sturm – der 9. Band der Reihe LinguS – bietet einen Überblick über die Grundbegriffe der Lexikologie, in dessen Mittelpunkt dementsprechend der Wortschatz und die Wortschatzvermittlung in der Schule stehen. Die Autorinnen charakterisieren ihr Buch als „eine Hilfe für das angemessene Beschreiben, Lernen und Lehren des deutschen Wortschatzes“ (S. 9).
