Abstract

The lack of proficiency in technical language required for the study of specialist fields often represents an obstacle to student mobility. This is especially true in the field of Architecture and Construction (AC), where professional training covers a number of technical sub-fields which are often defined by professional practices, cultural traditions and legal frameworks specific to a given country. The Erasmus+ SEAH project (Sharing European Architectural Heritage: Innovative language teaching tools for academic and professional mobility in Architecture and Construction) aims at creating specialized corpora in the field of AC and open access corpus-based language learning materials in French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish with a view to promoting wider student participation in mobility programmes. This paper presents the theoretical framework, methodologies and aims of the SEAH project, focusing on the general criteria and processes that have informed corpus design, giving examples of the compilation and use of the corpora for Spanish, Italian and Russian.
