The main aim of this paper is to identify, in the ethical codes of different professions, standards that are comparable or divergent from the codes of ethics of interpreters and translators from different translating and interpreting associations. To this end, we analyse the Codes of Ethics of two Hispano-American associations (Mexico and Colombia) and two European associations (Spain and Italy), all of them publicly available on the associations’ websites. The present paper takes as its theoretical starting point the recent study by Sánchez Trigo (2020) which focuses on the ethics in the translation profession taking account of ethical codes. Professional codes of ethics helps increase translators’ awareness of ethical issues in their profession get as well as discuss and deal with their practically implications, as translators and interpreters regularly confront problems that go beyond the linguistic.
