Jusqu'aux anneés 70 du X.Xe siècle, les enseignants avaient tendance à évacuer au maximum l'erreur et àne pas mettre l'élève en situation d'échec. Ainsi, le linguiste Corder (1976) et les béhavioristes défendaient l'idée qu'une bonne méthode doit conduire à un apprentissage sans erreur. Si les erreurs se produisent, c'est que la méthode n'est pas correctement conçue, OU bien que des circonstances particulières liées àl'élève (inattention, fatigue, stress...) conduisent à une performance imparfaite.
