Per un aggiornamento del concetto di vitalità linguisticaAbstract
Il contributo è incentrato sulle possibili definizioni di «vitalità» linguistica. Più precisamente si passano in rassegna alcune definizioni per verificarne la applicabilità a varie tassonomie lin- guistiche, quali le cosiddette «lingue maggioritarie», «lingue minoritarie», «lingue in via di estinzione», «lingue obsolescenti» o altro. Disporre di parametri che siano in grado di rilevare e misurare lo stato di «vitalità» di una determinata lingua, significa innanzitutto verificare e analizzare gli ambiti in cui la lingua viene realmente o potenzialmente usata. Il contributo mette in evidenza che oggi, accanto alle lingue storicamente minoritarie, sussiste un processo di minoritarizzazione che coinvolge anche le lingue maggioritarie. Ciò per un processo di rela- tivo confronto con una lingua come l’inglese che ha assunto il ruolo di lingua globale.
