Dans le chapitre de la syntaxe historique de la langue française, traitant l'ordre des mots dans la phrase et son évolution au cours des premiers siècles de l'ancien français, le problème de la proclise ou bien de l'enclise des formes faibles dos pronoms personnels régimes n'est pas le moins intéressant. En latin, la place de ces pronoms était en général après le verbe (Videt me, Pater amat me), c'est-à-dire que les pronoms se trouvaient en enclise au verbe, bien que des exemples où le pronom précède le verbe soient fréquents aussi, comp.: Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo, Vulg., Math. 6, 13; Haec omnia tibi dabo, si cadens adoraveris me, ib. 4, 9, à côté de: Quaerite ergo primum regnum Dei.
