Ce vaste recueil de réflexions théoriques sur la didactique du français langue étrangère (FLE) au XVIe et XVIIe siècles dans differents pays européens enrichit de manière considérable l'historiographie de l'enseignement de cette langue qui dispu ta le statut de la lingua franca au latin pour le céder bien plus tard à l'anglais. La monographie se joint aux efforts de la Sociétè pour l'Histoire du Français Langue Étrangère ou Seconde (SIHFLES).
