Naša ne suviše bogata lingvistička periodika obogatila se odnedavna novim časopisom, prvi broj kojega namjeravamo ovdje prikazati. U vrijeme nagloga razvoja lingvistike, koegzistencije različitih znanstvenih smjerova i dodira lingvistike s nizom drugih disciplina, pojavu takva časopisa možemo naravno pozdraviti, to više što fizionomija SOL-a, kako je zacrtana u uvodu prvom broju, točno odgovara onome što je upravo rečeno. Novi časopis, koji kao naslov nosi kraticu SOL (Studij odnosno Studenti Odsjeka za Opću Lingvistiku), namijenjen je opeoj lingvistici, suvremenim disciplinama sociolingvistici, pragmalingvistici, komunikologiji, semiotici (koja zapravo prožima cijeli prvi broj), kao i susjednim naukama (u prvom redu filozofiji jezika), bez kojih se danas studij lingvistike teško može zamisliti. Prema riječima uredništva, SOL je otvoren svima, predstavlja na neki način točku susreta i interferencije vec afirmiranih lingvista i stremljenja mladih, a pratit će našu i svjetsku znanost o jeziku u raznim suvremenim oblicima suradnje: studijama i kraćim člancima, intervjuima, prikazima, bibliografijom (što je vrlo korisno) i prijevodima. Predviđeni su i posebni tematski blokovi.
