Emidio de Felice ha aggiunto ai stioi due precedenti libri, Dizionario dei cognomi italiani (l.a edizione nel 1978; 3.a ed. 1980) e I cognomi degli italiani, 1980, un' altra pietra miliare per la conoscenza dell' onomastica italiana, un lavoro sui nomi che oggi portano i cittadini della Repubblica Italiana. L'Autore, ordinario di glottologia presso la Facoltà di Lettere dell' Università di Genova, vanta una serie di lavori linguistici sulla linguistica teorica, sulla romanizzazione della parte meridionale della Penisola Appenninica, sulla sintassi dell'italiano, di cui mi piace mettere in rilievo soprattutto il lavoro sulla storia delle preposizioni in italiano e quello sull'aspetto verbale nei testi francesi.
