Am 15. Juli 1572 schrieb der ehemalige Rektor der protestan tischen Ständeschule in Ljubljana Leonhard Budina (1500-1573) einen Brief an den Tübinger Professor, den bekannten Gräzisten Martin Crusius. Darin bedankte er sich für die Grabinschrift, die Crusius, nachdem er vom greisen Schulrektor über das tra gische Ende von dessen Sohn Samuel Budina benachrichtigt worden war, ihm zugeschickt hat. Denn Samuel Budina studierte seit 1558 als erster Stipendiat aus Krain im fürstlichen Stipendium in Tübingen und erreichte dort 1565 gleichzeitig mit dem berühmten späteren Humanisten Nikodem Frischlin das Magisterium. Unter die akademischen Lehrer des jungen Samuel Budina geh rte auch Crusius, der dies in seinen handschriftlichen Aufzeichnungen mehrmals festhielt.
