Cet ouvrage collectif paru sous la direction de Pierre Swiggers et de Willy Van Hoeche, réunit sept études consacrées à la pensée et a Ia pratique linguistiques du XVI siècle français, et un répertoire de bibliographie systématique. II s'agit en effet d 'une époque ou I'idée de normaliser Ia langue est une conséquence logique de l'expansion de Ia culture française en Europe et l'on se heurte aujourd'hui aux sour ces des premiers descripteurs du français tournarit essentiellement autour des pro blemes de Ia codification de Ia langue, de Ia normalisation du français écrit et de Ia diversité dialectale.
