Artificial Intelligence and the Metaverse
Innovative Didactic Horizons in Museum Communication

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Metaverse is transforming museum communication. This article analyses the phenomenon through a composite methodological framework, which includes studies on museum communication, VR/AR in cultural heritage, and the impact of immersive technologies on visitors’ perception at a cognitive, emotional, and philosophical level. It also examines specific applications of AI in museums (e.g., cataloguing, personalization, data analysis) and methodologies for designing effective virtual experiences. From a pedagogical perspective, a workshop model based on the “Spatial” open-source platform is presented to illustrate how virtual museums can be created. Through applications such as immersive tours and historical reconstructions, the paper demonstrates how AI and VR represent an educational innovation with considerable potential to democratise access to culture, promoting a more inclusive and participatory museum experience.
