Abstract

The World Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia, has just concluded. The most important gymnastics event of the year was affected by politics; however, it was encouraging to see Russian athletes return to the stage, though we missed the Israeli gymnasts. The new level of gymnastics is remarkable. USA gymnast Kameron Nelson performed a triple salto backward, both tucked and piked, on floor. Since the 1988 Olympic Games, when Jurij Koroljev performed a triple salto backward tucked, and Marian Kovacs performed a triple piked at the 1995 World Championships in Sabae, we have rarely seen a gymnast perform even one triple salto. To see two triples in one floor exercise is simply magnificent, demonstrating what humans can achieve and offering opportunities for further research.

Our articles archive, now hosted on the University of Ljubljana server and freely accessible to all visitors, is a significant step forward. By the end of the year, we expect to have more than one hundred thousand visitors.

We are still experiencing difficulties with our reviewers, as many unfortunately do not have time to review our submissions. I appeal to you to assist us. As a specialised journal, we have access to only a limited number of researchers. Let us all make an effort to remain part of the prominent scientific community on the Web of Science and SCOPUS.

This issue covers a diverse range of content, with authors from the USA, United Kingdom, Brazil, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia, Turkey, and Germany. The first article is from our excellent group of gymnastics researchers under the leadership of William A. Sands, dealing with the mechanisms of ruptured Achilles tendons. I sincerely hope coaches and gymnasts will read it and act accordingly to ensure “Mens sana in corpore sano”.

In October, the legendary Alexander Dityatin passed away. In Short Historical Notes, you can find more about the gymnast who won eight medals at a single Olympic Games.

Just a reminder: if you cite the journal, its abbreviation in the Web of Knowledge is SCI GYMN J.
